The Pakistan Cricket Board has terminated Haris Rauf’s central contract and banned him from participating in overseas T20 leagues until June 30, 2024.
The PCB has taken a firm stance against Haris Rauf for his decision to skip joining the Pakistan Test squad for the 2023-24 series versus Australia, resulting in his contract termination. This action, effective from December 1, 2023, followed a thorough hearing process conducted by a PCB committee.
Additionally, Rauf is banned from obtaining an NOC for overseas T20 leagues until June 30, 2024. Despite being given a chance to explain himself during a personal hearing on January 30, 2024, Rauf’s response did not satisfy the PCB’s standards of natural justice, prompting the enforcement of the termination clause in his contract.
In a press release, the PCB highlighted that representing Pakistan is a prestigious responsibility for any athlete. Rauf’s refusal to join the Test squad without a valid medical report or reason was seen as a serious breach of his contract.
The PCB management provided a chance for a personal hearing to Haris in compliance with the principles of natural justice on 30 January 2024, and his response was found unsatisfactory. Playing for Pakistan is the ultimate honor and privilege for any sportsperson. Refusal to be part of Pakistan’s Test squad in the absence of any medical report or justifiable reason is a material violation of the central contract,” the official statement by PCB read.
It is still uncertain whether Rauf can appeal the decision or not. This development occurred shortly after Mohammed Hafeez, the former director of the Pakistan cricket team, also left his position, indicating a period of significant changes and adjustments within Pakistan cricket.
