Adam Zampa, the Rajasthan Royals spinner, has reportedly withdrawn from IPL 2024 due to personal reasons, as confirmed by the franchise’s manager to ESPNCricinfo.

Rajasthan Royals’ spinner Adam Zampa has reportedly withdrawn from IPL 2024 citing personal reasons, just before the league’s 17th season kicks off. The team’s manager confirmed Zampa’s absence to ESPNCricinfo, despite his retention for this year’s IPL.

Zampa, who earned ₹1.5 crore in IPL 2023, displayed a commendable performance with eight wickets in six matches. However, his decision to withdraw is supposedly influenced by his young family and a hectic schedule post the 2023 World Cup, where he stayed back for the T20I series in India and also participated in the Big Bash League before matches against the West Indies and New Zealand.

The Australian spinner, who previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rising Pune Supergiants, took 29 wickets in 20 matches over four seasons. Jason Roy, Gus Atkinson, and Harry Brook are the other players who have decided not to participate in the league due to non-injury-related reasons.

Earlier, the Rajasthan Royals had suffered another blow to their bowling attack as Prasidh Krishna was ruled out for the season due to quadriceps surgery. Manoj Badale, the Royals’ co-owner, emphasized the need for closer collaboration between franchises and the BCCI’s medical department. Badale also expressed concern over player workload management, highlighting the significant impact of injuries on franchise investments.

Led by Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals, champions of the inaugural IPL in 2008, reached the final in IPL 2022 but lost to the Gujarat Titans. Currently, they have not named replacements for Prasidh or Zampa.

The Royals will kick off their campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Jaipur.
