Ishan Kishan has been withdrawn from India’s Test squad against South Africa following his request to the BCCI for release due to personal reasons, as confirmed by the board in a media release.
Ishan Kishan, the wicketkeeper-batter, requested release from India’s Test squad against South Africa due to personal reasons, confirmed by the BCCI. Consequently, he was withdrawn from the squad, and KS Bharat has been named as his replacement by the All India Selection Committee for the World Test Championship series.
The left-hand batter previously debuted in Tests during the West Indies tour, playing two matches and registering a half-century in the second. Despite being absent from the T20I series and not selected for ODIs, he now steps away from the Test squad for personal reasons
“Mr. Ishan Kishan has requested the BCCI to be released from the upcoming Test series against South Africa citing personal reasons. The wicket-keeper has subsequently been withdrawn from the Test squad. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Mr KS Bharat as a replacement,” the BCCI’s official statement read.
Shami, recovering from an ankle injury since the ODI World Cup, was also initially picked for India’s Test squad pending medical clearance. No substitute has been announced yet by the BCCI.
Earlier, the board mentioned that coach Rahul Dravid and regular staff won’t manage the ongoing three-match ODI series. They’ll focus on monitoring the inter-squad match to prep for the Test series. The first Test against South Africa begins on December 26 in Centurion.
