Shreyas Iyer, after undergoing scans during the Ranji Trophy final due to concerns over his back, has been reportedly declared fit and will proceed to the pre-IPL camp in Kolkata without any issues.
The uncertainty surrounding Shreyas Iyer’s back troubles continues to evolve, with conflicting reports suggesting he might miss some initial IPL 2024 matches due to back spasms. However, the Mumbai cricket team manager dismissed these concerns, affirming Iyer’s participation in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp. Bhushan Patil assured that Iyer is in good health and will join the pre-IPL camp in two days.
“There is no cause for concern; he is fine and will be going to Kolkata for the pre-IPL camp in two days,” Bhushan Patil was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Another source echoed this assurance when speaking to The Telegraph, stating that Iyer would be available from the first match onwards.
“He will be available from the first match itself. As of now, there’s nothing to worry about. His staying off the field in the Ranji final was more of a precautionary measure,” the source was quoted as saying.
Since Iyer is no longer under the BCCI contract, he cannot access NCA facilities for free and must obtain a recommendation from his state association.
The back issue surfaced after the second Test between India and England in Vizag, leading to Iyer’s exclusion from the Indian squad for the remaining matches without an official explanation from the BCCI. He skipped Mumbai’s last Ranji Trophy match due to back spasms but attended KKR’s pre-season camp simultaneously, drawing BCCI’s ire.
Consequently, Iyer was excluded from the BCCI’s annual player contracts for 2023-24. Despite missing the Ranji quarter-final, he participated in the semi-final and final matches.
