The Punjab Kings defeated the Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets and pushed themselves to the seventh position on the IPL points table.
Punjab Kings opted to field first after winning the toss and put the Chennai Super Kings openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad (62) and Ajinkya Rahane (29), under early pressure. Despite a slow start, CSK failed to capitalize on the momentum they gradually built. Shivam Dube’s golden duck further hampered their progress, leaving the team reliant on Gaikwad’s anchor innings. Decent contributions from Sameer Rizvi, Moeen Ali, and MS Dhoni helped CSK reach a respectable total of 162.
For Punjab Kings, bowlers Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar were particularly impressive, taking two crucial wickets each with economical spells of 4.00 and 4.25 runs per over, respectively. Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh also chipped in with valuable wickets.
Chasing a modest total set by CSK, Punjab Kings got off to a strong start. Opener Prabhsimran Singh fell early in the fourth over, but Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw steadied the ship with a 64-run partnership. However, Jonny’s dismissal by Shivam Dube, bowling his first spell in the IPL, brought a turning point. Undeterred, Shashank Singh came in and boosted the run rate alongside Rilee.

Sam Curran then joined the crease and partnered with Shashank to see Punjab Kings home comfortably, securing a convincing victory with 13 balls to spare. While Shivam Dube, Richard Gleeson, and Shardul Thakur picked up wickets for CSK, they were unable to stop the flow of runs as PBKS cruised to their target.
