Ravichandran Ashwin lauded Jasprit Bumrah as the standout performer, dubbing him ‘BoomBall’, for his exceptional nine-wicket haul in India’s Test series against England.
Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin commended star speedster Jasprit Bumrah for his outstanding performance in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. Bumrah’s exceptional display saw him claim nine wickets, pivotal in India’s emphatic victory by a significant 106-run margin, thereby leveling the series.
When speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin affectionately coined the term ‘BoomBall’ to describe Bumrah’s remarkable bowling prowess. He also congratulated Bumrah for attaining the prestigious position of the No. 1 ranked Test bowler.
“The real showstealer is BoomBall. Jasprit Bumrah has bowled extraordinarily. He is the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets and also the No.1 ranked Test bowler. I am a huge fan of his and this is a Himalayan feat,” said Ashwin.
Ashwin also praised Gill for his exceptional century under pressure, which contributed significantly to India’s imposing target of 399. He emphasized Gill’s immense talent and remarked that his century showcased the resilience and skill set he possesses as a batsman.
In the Visakhapatnam Test, England faced a daunting target of 332 runs with nine wickets in hand on Day 4. Ravichandran Ashwin credited India’s determination and team performance for their victory, leveling the series at 1-1. Reflecting on the series, he further drew parallels to the excitement of the famous 2005 Ashes series.
“England played an exciting Ashes series against Australia in 2005 and I followed that with great interest. I am getting a similar feeling of excitement about this series as well,” he added.
The third Test is scheduled for February 15 in Rajkot, where Ashwin, aiming for his 500th Test wicket, seeks to strengthen India’s position and secure a series lead.
