According to recent reports, Rahul Dravid might coach the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, after his retirement as India coach.
Former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid is reportedly set to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the head coach of Rajasthan Royals. A source close to the development told the Times of India that negotiations between Dravid and the Royals are in advanced stages, and an official announcement is imminent. “Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, an announcement in his regard is round the corner,” the source said.
Dravid, who has been tight-lipped about his future plans since stepping down as India coach, hinted at a potential career move in his post-World Cup address. While jokingly referring to himself as ‘unemployed’, the legendary batter indicated an openness to new opportunities.
The Rajasthan Royals holds a special place in Dravid’s heart. He captained the team from 2011 to 2013 and subsequently served as a mentor, creating one of the IPL’s most iconic moments with a dramatic captain’s knock during a tense match.

A key factor in Dravid’s decision is the IPL’s relatively shorter commitment compared to the demanding role of India coach. The 50-year-old is keen to spend more quality time with his family and support his sons’ cricket careers.
While speculation linked Dravid to the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Rajasthan Royals connection appears to be a more natural fit. The move could also signal the end of Kumar Sangakkara’s tenure as the Royals’ head coach. Notably, Dravid’s coaching journey began with India A and Under-19 teams, where he achieved remarkable success, culminating in the Under-19 World Cup title in 2018.
