Rahul Dravid’s contract as India’s head coach ends in June, and while he’ll need to reapply for the position after the T20 World Cup, reports suggest he’s not interested in continuing beyond that.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India’s head coach is set to end in June, as confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Dravid will need to reapply if he intends to prolong his stint beyond the upcoming T20 World Cup. Shah clarified that the BCCI is seeking a long-term coach for a three-year period and will soon invite applications for the position.
Dravid, who initially signed a two-year contract, had received an extension alongside his support staff following the conclusion of last year’s 50-over World Cup.
“We will call for applications in the next few days. Rahul Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end. He has to reapply if he has to continue. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years,” Shah told the media during an interaction.
The Times of India has reported that Rahul Dravid has no intention of reapplying for the head coach position he’s held since November 2021. According to the same source, Dravid seems uninterested in continuing as India’s head coach.
Jay Shah also addressed the possibility of having separate coaches for different formats, stating it’s unprecedented in Indian cricket. The final decision, however, lies with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of Jatin Paranjape, Ashok Malhotra, and Sulakshana Naik. Shah emphasized that he will implement whatever decision the CAC makes regarding coaching arrangements.
Shah noted that a foreign coach could be an option based on the CAC’s guidance. He further mentioned the upcoming appointment of a national selector to fill a vacant position. Interviews for the selector role have taken place, and an announcement regarding the appointment is imminent.
