Rahul Dravid, Team India’s head coach, sees Virat Kohli’s absence from the first two Tests against England as a chance for other players to step up and deliver noteworthy performances.

As Team India prepares for the first two Tests against England, head coach Rahul Dravid views Virat Kohli’s absence as a chance for others to rise to the occasion. Kohli’s withdrawal from the squad for personal reasons presents a challenge, especially given his strong performance in the Tests against South Africa.

Dravid, acknowledging Kohli’s exceptional quality, expressed that any team would miss such a phenomenal player. However, he highlighted the positive aspect, emphasizing the opportunity for someone else in the batting lineup to step up and make significant contributions.

“I think you know any team will miss the quality of a player of the Virat. There’s no doubt about it. You know, he’s a phenomenal player. His record speaks for him. On the field, his presence is a huge boost to the side. But having said that, I think, it just presents another opportunity for somebody else to be able to step up and to be able to put in some performances,” Dravid said to the reporters.

As of now, India has not announced a substitute for Kohli. Given Dravid’s clarification that KL Rahul is not being considered for wicketkeeping duties, it appears likely that Rahul might step in as a specialized batsman in the middle order.

Dravid also acknowledged England’s ultra-attacking ‘Bazball’ strategy, recognizing its potential to surprise India. Despite this, he expressed confidence in India’s quality bowling, citing their familiarity with the local conditions as an advantage. Anticipating England’s aggressive approach, Dravid looks forward to seeing how India, led by Rohit Sharma, responds, especially if faced with a turning wicket in Hyderabad.
