Rashid Khan expressed confidence in his team’s ability to defeat any opponent in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, highlighting the importance of belief and focus after a decisive victory over Uganda.
Afghanistan started the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with a resounding 125-run win over Uganda at the Providence Stadium. After their win, skipper Rashid Khan praised his team’s performance and expressed confidence in their ability to defeat any opponent, drawing on the momentum from their successful ODI World Cup appearance. He emphasized the importance of belief and focus, stating that it’s not just about skill and talent but also about concentrating on their own game.
“Last World Cup that gave us so much confidence. That gave us the belief that we are capable of beating any side at any time. It is not just about the skill and the talent; it is also about the belief and concentrating on what we are doing rather than thinking of what the opposition is doing,” India Today quoted Rashid.

Furthermore, Rashid Khan underscored the significance of a strong start and a positive mindset in the World Cup. He commended his team’s comprehensive performance against Uganda, noting the exceptional opening stand by Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, and the outstanding bowling led by Fazalhaq Farooqi. Looking forward to their next match against New Zealand, Rashid emphasized the importance of keeping things simple.
“This is the kind of start we wanted as a team. Does not matter who we play, it is about the mindset. The hard work we have done in the last few weeks, the way the openers started, and the way our bowlers bowled, it was a great overall team effort,” he said.
“Big game for us. It is about keeping things simple,” the skipper concluded.
