Ravi Shastri praised Ravichandran Ashwin for his exceptional knock that revived India from its despair against Bangladesh’s pace attack.

The first day of the India versus Bangladesh Test match series opener was nothing less of a battle of the nerves. Though the Indian side fell like a house of cards with openers and strong performers like Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill going back to the pavillion for less than ten runs, Ravichandran Ashwin became a ray of hope when he smashed 102 runs to salvage India’s innings to 339 for 6 runs.

Ravi Shastri was on the commentary panel, and he did not fail to notice the crowd rejoicing Ashwin’s fifty runs. “When you play in front of your home crowd, it’s extra motivation for you to do well. And there is no better feeling than reaching a landmark fifty. Look at them; that cheering is like when you get a hundred at Lord’s and walk into the long room. There’s a glass in hand, and that’s the way they applaud. Well done on you,” stated Shastri in commentary.

Ashwin Revives India From Hasan Mahmud’s Wrath

Ashwin, aka ‘anna’, blazed through a fiery knock of 102, featuring 10 fours and 2 sixes, and marked his sixth century in Test cricket. Along with Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 83, the all-rounder revived India’s innings, with the duo putting together a 195-run partnership to take the team to 339/6 by the close of Day 1.

As of the Bangladesh squad, the young pacer Hasan Mahmud shone, picking up important wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant. The bowler already bagged an economy rate of 3.22 despite his spell of 18 overs. Amongst other bowlers, Mehidy Hasan and Nahid Rana also scalped one wicket each to weaken India’s batting lineup.
