Former cricketing legend Ravi Shastri lauded Virat Kohli, attributing him as a major force in sustaining Test cricket due to his dynamic captaincy.
When speaking on Fox Sports, Ravi Shastri showered immense praise on Virat Kohli, emphasizing the cricketer’s pivotal role in driving Test cricket forward through his exceptional work ethic and passion for the game. As a former head coach, Shastri commended Kohli’s relentless dedication, noting that no one works or trains harder than him to excel against top teams.
“His work ethic, the passion for the game and the desire to perform against the best in the world and getting himself into the position that allows himself to do that. Sacrifice whatever is needed to get there. No one trains harder and works harder than him,” Shastri said.
Shastri also credited Kohli for instilling fearlessness in the Indian team’s Test cricket, notably guiding them to a historic Test series victory in Australia. He hailed Kohli as a modern-day great and a rare Test cricket ambassador for his infectious energy and fierce competitiveness.
“He loves batting in Australia, he loves the way the Australians compete, it gets the best out of him. Some of his best batting I saw in my years as a coach has come against Australia. The 100 he scores here in Perth was on a dodgy pitch where people were getting hit,” he added.
“He is one of the modern-day greats, he has kept the Test cricket going. There are very few ambassadors of the Test like Virat Kohli. He brings energy on the field as a captain and as a player, look at his eyes, he means business. He meant business in this year’s World Cup. In the final, his was the biggest wicket that changed the whole tempo of the game and silenced the crowd. The desire is still there and I want him to play for three more years because the world cricket wants him, there is a personality, a character,” Shastri concluded.
