Ravindra Jadeja’s position in the Indian team appears uncertain as the BCCI reportedly evaluates his role in upcoming international seasons. Despite being one of India’s most trusted all-rounders, Jadeja’s recent performances have raised concerns. In the 1-3 Test series loss against Australia, Jadeja managed only four wickets across three matches, though he contributed a half-century and scored 135 runs at an average of 27. While Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma faced criticism for their performances, Jadeja’s inconsistencies received less attention.
According to reports from the Times of India, the BCCI selection committee is considering transitioning to younger players and may look beyond Jadeja. Discussions about his future are expected as part of a broader strategy to prepare the team for future challenges, including the next World Cup cycle.
“It’s all about when the selectors decide the transition needs to kick in. They will discuss if they want to go with a safe option in (Ravindra) Jadeja or move on right now,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying.
“Even in Test cricket, he has struggled to get going, though his bowling has been steady. There is an urge to move on from him, especially in the ODI format. It will be a tough call in the coming days,” the source added.
Jadeja’s position in India’s Test squad appears stable for now, with the upcoming England tour in sight. The selectors are considering him due to a lack of experienced options in the middle order. Even for the Champions Trophy in Dubai, Jadeja could benefit from conditions that typically favor spinners, keeping him in contention. Yet, with the team undergoing a transition phase, the BCCI may soon make a decisive call on his ODI role.
