Ravindra Jadeja won the best fielder medal, presented by head coach Rahul Dravid, after being recognized by fielding coach T Dilip for his lightning speed and sharp instincts.
India continued their winning streak in the T20 World Cup with a convincing 47-run victory against Afghanistan on Thursday, June 20th. As usual, the Indian dressing room celebrated by awarding the best fielder medal.
This time, the competition was fierce. Fielding coach T Dilip had a tough choice, announcing four nominees: Arshdeep Singh, the ever-reliable Ravindra Jadeja, the left-arm spinner Axar Patel, and the wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. The suspense didn’t last long. Praising Jadeja’s “lightning speed” and “sharp instincts” on the field, T Dilip declared him the winner. The dressing room cheered as head coach Rahul Dravid presented the medal. In a fun moment, Jadeja also picked up Dravid in a big, celebratory hug.
“This medal is very important. I am very, very happy to get this medal,” Jadeja said. He even credited Mohammad Siraj with a touch of humor as his inspiration for the performance.
In the match, opting to bat first, India faced trouble at 90/4 by the 11th over. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya then steadied the innings with a 60-run partnership, helping India reach 181/7.
India’s bowlers dominated from the start in the second innings, with Afghanistan losing three wickets in the powerplay. Jasprit Bumrah was particularly effective, dismissing both openers in his first two overs and ending with figures of 4-0-7-3. Kuldeep Yadav’s inclusion paid off as he restricted runs in the middle overs. Arshdeep Singh also contributed with three wickets.
