Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the first Test against South Africa due to a back spasm, might return for the second Test, according to a PTI report.
India entered the first Test against South Africa without key bowlers like Mohammed Shami and the versatile Ravindra Jadeja, whose absence was felt significantly. Jadeja’s dual prowess as a bowler and a consistent contributor with the bat was notably missed as India succumbed to an innings defeat. His absence, owing to a back spasm, might be short-lived, as a recent PTI report hints at his potential return for the second Test in Cape Town.
According to the report, Jadeja participated in the warm-up activities before the game, sprinting short distances. Notably, the all-rounder participated in the warm-up session without showing any discomfort, running short distances of 30 to 40 meters, signaling his potential availability.
“The all-rounder didn’t look in any sort of discomfort as he ran multiple 30 to 40 metre short strides during the morning session. He also did a few fitness drills during the session. But the most reassuring aspect was his bowling during the lunch break on the third day. Along with reserve pacer Mukesh Kumar, Jadeja, for close to 20 minutes, bowled on a practice track and was keenly watched by the team’s strength and conditioning coach, Rajnikant. He was mainly doing spot bowling although he himself has a two step run-up. He was hitting the spot consistently and was also seen getting to turn a few in the process,” quoted the report.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin struggled to pose a threat to the batsmen despite his 19 overs yielding only one wicket for 40 runs. However, although Jadeja’s bowling may lack impact, his batting prowess, especially in SENA countries at lower-order positions, could be beneficial.
Additionally, India’s squad sees a change, with Avesh Khan stepping in for the injured Mohammed Shami, addressing the bowling lineup’s alteration.
