Ishan Kishan, having traveled extensively with the Indian team, opted out of the South Africa tour due to mental fatigue, as reported by the Indian Express.

Amidst his selection in the T20I and Test series against South Africa, Ishan Kishan opted out due to personal reasons, as reported by the Indian Express. This withdrawal stemmed from the strain of extensive travel with the Indian squad, yet not securing consistent opportunities to play due to team combinations. Despite being part of the ODI World Cup squad, he only participated in the initial two matches during Shubman Gill’s recovery period.

Expressing mental fatigue, Kishan conveyed to the team management his need for a hiatus from cricket, which they mutually agreed upon. “He informed the team management that he is having mental fatigue and wants a break from cricket for some time. Everyone agreed to it,” a source said to The Indian Express.

Kishan, citing personal reasons, withdrew from the upcoming Test series against South Africa, part of the World Test Championship. Consequently, KS Bharat has been named as his replacement by the All India Selection Committee, as confirmed by the BCCI in their press release.

The left-hand batter debuted in Tests this year during the West Indies tour, contributing a half-century in the second match. He missed T20Is and ODI selections. The Test series against South Africa starts on December 26 at SuperSport Park, Centurion, followed by the second Test in Cape Town on January 3, 2024.
