The BCCI is reportedly considering restructuring the payment and incentive system for Test matches due to concerns about decreasing player interest in the format, as per The Indian Express.
With the rise of T20 cricket and league matches, there has been a noticeable decline in the consistent participation of players in Test cricket. Reportedly, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India is planning to introduce a new remuneration model after the upcoming IPL season, considering an additional bonus structure for players who complete all Test series in a season. Currently, players earn ₹15 lakh per Test, ₹6 lakh per ODI, and ₹3 lakh per T20I.
“For example, if someone played all Test series in a calendar year, he should be rewarded additionally, apart from the annual retainer contract. This is to ensure that players turn out for more red-ball cricket. This would be an additional perk for playing Test cricket,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
In a recent post-match press conference, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma commented on the youngsters for lacking the required hunger for the game, stating, “Look, you can tell just by looking who doesn’t have the hunger for Test Cricket. What’s the point of playing them then?”

Earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also addressed this issue and warned players who decided to skip red-ball cricket.
It was further reported that the BCCI is considering excluding certain players from the central contract list. However, it remains unclear whether the board will ultimately take this drastic step.
