Anticipated to kick off on March 22, reports from Cricbuzz hint that the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is in the planning stages, concluding on May 26.
As per reports from Cricbuzz, the upcoming 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is expected to kick off on March 22, closely following the conclusion of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) by five days. The IPL is scheduled to extend until May 26, just before the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the Caribbean, although India’s initial World Cup match is slated for June 5.
In a tentative schedule disclosed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the second season of the WPL is envisaged to unfold from February 22 to March 17 in Bengaluru and Delhi, with official dates set for an announcement, likely on Monday (22.01.2023).
The IPL schedule is closely linked to the General Election timetable, prompting the BCCI to discreetly explore the possibility of hosting the tournament between March 22 and May 26. While the final schedule confirmation hinges on the announcement of election dates, the BCCI remains confident about conducting the entire league within India.
Receiving assurances from the majority of cricket boards regarding player availability until the final, the BCCI acknowledges the potential for early player departures due to the T20 World Cup starting on June 1. Presently, the primary focus of the BCCI is aligning the schedule with the general elections, emphasizing the intent to hold the IPL within the country.
