David Warner, making a spectacular return to Test cricket, kickstarted his farewell series against Pakistan at Perth Stadium with a remarkable century, his first since December 2022.
In his remarkable return to Test cricket, David Warner’s century on the opening day of his farewell series against Pakistan in Perth marked a triumphant milestone, being his 26th Test century and the first since December 2022. Highlighting his role as an essential opener for Australia, Warner lauded the impactful partnership with Usman Khawaja, aiming to further bolster the team’s run-scoring momentum alongside Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh.
When talking during the Tea break, Warner underlined the importance of generating a substantial scoreboard total for the bowlers. Remaining unfazed by criticism, Warner asserted the necessity of focusing on performance and shutting out detractors, finding solace in contributing runs to the team’s success.
“Look, it’s my job to come here and score runs for my team. From the get-go, I was on my way, and along with Usman Khawaja, it was great to build up a partnership and put pressure on Pakistan. Now, I am in a partnership with Smith,” Warner said.
“It was just another Test hundred for Australia. Always feels great. We need to put enough runs on the board to give the bowlers to have something to bowl at. Yeah, if put in the right areas, the wicket looks a nice one. You can do nothing about the criticism, but you have to put your head down and get into your work. Nothing better than getting runs and silencing the critics,” he added.
With an impressive tally of over 8,600 runs in 200 innings, which includes 26 centuries and 36 half-centuries, Warner’s distinguished Test career will culminate in his final match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) from January 3 to January 7 next month. His hundred came off a mere 125 deliveries, reflecting his aggressive yet strategic style, featuring 14 boundaries and a powerful six.
