Aakash Chopra Upholds defended Virat Kohli’s decision to keep his absence from the England Tests private, asserting that the cricketer has every right to maintain silence on personal matters until he feels ready.
Virat Kohli’s absence from the first two Test matches against England, citing personal reasons, has sparked speculation about his future participation in the series, with uncertainty lingering over his availability for the upcoming matches in Rajkot and Ranchi. Recently, his close friend AB de Villiers hinted at the reason behind Kohli’s withdrawal, suggesting that the cricketer is expecting his second child. However, neither Kohli nor his wife Anushka Sharma have confirmed this.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra weighed in on the matter, asserting that Kohli has the right to maintain privacy regarding his personal life. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra emphasized the importance of respecting Kohli’s decision to disclose information only when he feels comfortable.
“AB de Villiers spilled the beans slightly but we have no idea at all what exactly is happening in his life. Personally, I won’t try to find out as well. We will get to hear once he is comfortable. You also don’t know what goes on in my life. I only share what I want to share,” Chopra said.
“Similarly, you also share with others whatever you want to share about your life. There is no obligation that you need to tell the entire world what’s happening in your life. So Virat Kohli has taken a break. He had asked for privacy through BCCI or BCCI did it themselves, so we will maintain that,” he added.
However, KL Rahul is set to return to the playing XI for the third Test against England after missing the Visakhapatnam match due to a minor injury.
While Ravindra Jadeja’s hamstring is healing positively, he may not be fit enough to play in Rajkot. Mohammed Siraj will also return after resting in Visakhapatnam, possibly replacing Mukesh Kumar in the lineup.
