Michael Vaughan stated that Rishabh Pant’s fearless batting has impressed even Ben Stokes.
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has received high praise from former England captain Michael Vaughan for his strong yet calculated approach in Test cricket. Vaughan noted that even England captain Ben Stokes seems to admire Pant’s fearless style.
Pant scored 134 and 118 in the two innings at Headingley, becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to register twin centuries in a Test. Though India lost the match by five wickets, Pant’s batting stood out. Vaughan drew comparisons with Adam Gilchrist, calling Pant a trendsetter in the longest format.
“There’s a lot of science in that madness the way that he plays. You can see even Ben Stokes is admiring when he’s batting. Adam Gilchrist for me is the best wicketkeeper-batter. But Pant just set a new trend,” Indian Express quoted Vaughan as saying.
“I mean MS Dhoni, across white ball cricket, was fantastic. You would think with the way that he plays, Pant would be completely suited to the white ball game and not so much the Test game, but his Test record is miles better than his white ball record,” he added.

In the series, India face early pressure after a five-wicket loss to England at Headingley. Jasprit Bumrah’s first-innings five-wicket haul stood out, but the rest of the bowling lacked bite. England chased 371, their second-highest successful fourth-innings target in Tests. Despite scoring 835 runs with five centuries, India failed to defend the total.
With Bumrah likely to miss the Edgbaston Test starting July 2, India may consider Nitish Kumar Reddy.
