Rishabh Pant eyes October return
Rishabh Pant aimed for a comeback in India’s two-Test series against the West Indies after missing the Asia Cup 2025 due to injury.
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is preparing for a return to international cricket after recovering from a foot injury. According to reports, Pant is targeting the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies in October for his comeback.
Pant sustained the injury while playing a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes on Day 1 of the fourth India-England Test at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 23. The injury ruled him out of the fifth Test at The Oval and also from India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025. In his absence, the selectors named Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma in the 15-member squad for the eight-team tournament in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Pant, regarded as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in the five-day format, is hopeful of regaining full fitness in time for the West Indies series. A report in Cricbuzz stated, “Pant is targeting India’s next home series against the West Indies in October for his comeback, and if that does not happen, the white-ball series against Australia in October-November seems a realistic possibility.”

India will host the West Indies in two Tests, with the opener scheduled at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2 to 6, followed by the second Test at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium from October 10 to 14. After the series, India will tour Australia for a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series. The ODIs are set for Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney on October 19, 23, and 25, while the T20Is will be played in Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Gold Coast, and Brisbane.
Pant’s role in ODIs and T20Is remains limited. He was part of India’s squads for the three-match ODI series against England in February 2025 and the ICC Champions Trophy but did not get an opportunity to play. His last T20I appearance came against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on July 28, 2024. Since then, he missed series against Bangladesh, South Africa, and England due to workload management for Test players.
With the West Indies series approaching, India’s management will be closely monitoring Pant’s progress as he looks to return to the longest format of the game.
