Pant’s Departure Linked to Difference in Perspective
Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal explained that Rishabh Pant’s departure from the franchise was due to differences in philosophy on how the team should be run.
In a recent interview, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal revealed that the franchise made every possible effort to retain Rishabh Pant ahead of the IPL mega auction. However, Pant’s departure was due to a difference in philosophies on how the team should be managed.
Jindal explained that the differences between Pant and the team ownership were not about money, but rather how the franchise should operate. “It was just a different philosophy of how he wanted the franchise to operate and how us – the owners – wanted the franchise to operate. That’s what caused it (Pant’s departure). There’s nothing to do with money,” Jindal told ESPNCricinfo.
Jindal further emphasised that money was never an issue for either Pant or the franchise. “Money’s never been an issue for Rishabh. And money’s never been an issue for us. I guess the three of us (Kiran Grandhi, Jindal, and Pant) were on different wavelengths,” he added.
When asked about the exact points of difference, Jindal said it was primarily related to how the franchise should be run. “It means the way the franchise is to run, the decisions of the franchise, those kinds of things. There were certain expectations that he had and there were certain expectations we had. I can just say that we couldn’t align on these things,” he explained.
Jindal Acknowledges Pant’s Value in Auction
Acknowledging the inevitability of Pant’s departure, Jindal stated that once the franchise did not retain Pant, they knew it would be difficult to bring him back. “The minute we didn’t retain him, I knew he was gone. We did do the right-to-match for him at Rs 20.25 (crore), but again, the budget went extremely high. We were okay to stretch up to Rs 22-23 (crore),” Jindal concluded.
