BCCI fined and suspended Delhi Capitals’ captain Rishabh Pant for one match due to a slow over-rate breach during the IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals.
Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant has been handed a one-match suspension by the IPL governing body for breaching the league’s Code of Conduct. Pant faced consequences for Delhi Capitals’ slow over-rate during IPL 2024 Match 56 against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 07. DC lagged 10 minutes behind schedule at the start of the final over, leading to disciplinary action.
The decision follows DC’s third slow over-rate offense this season, resulting in Pant being fined INR 30 Lac and suspended, while the rest of the playing XI, including the impact substitute, received fines of INR 12 Lac or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lesser.
“Mr Rishabh Pant, Captain, Delhi Capitals has been fined has been fined and suspended for one match for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024,” the IPL official release read.
“As it was Rishabh Pant’s team’s third offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 30 Lakh and suspended for one match. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either Rs 12 Lakh or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” it added.
DC appealed the match referee’s ruling but the BCCI Ombudsman upheld the decision, stating it as final and binding.
Consequently, Rishabh Pant will sit out the vital Sunday fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, posing a setback to their playoff aspirations. DC currently stands fifth in the IPL table with 12 points from as many games.
