Rishabh Pant, despite leading the Delhi Capitals to their first IPL 2024 win with a fifty, was fined for his team’s slow over-rate during the match.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined for his team’s slow over-rate during their victory against the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on March 31st at Visakhapatnam.
This marked the first offence of the season for the Delhi Capitals under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, resulting in a fine of Rs 12 lakh for the skipper.
The match itself was an exciting spectacle. Pant, returning from a long break, marked his comeback with a brilliant half-century, leading the Delhi Capitals to their first win of the season by 20 runs. CSK, who had won their previous two matches, fell short on this occasion. However, MS Dhoni’s fans were not disappointed, as the former Indian skipper had an unbeatable, explosive knock of 37 runs from 16 balls.
The Delhi Capitals posted a challenging 191 runs on the board. Bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma started well, with Khaleel picking up key wickets. Chennai attempted to fight back with a middle-order partnership, but Mukesh Kumar’s three quick wickets put Delhi back in control. Although Dhoni tried to salvage CSK’s run chase, it was too late to be revived as Dhoni came in at the 17th over when 72 runs were needed off 23 balls. Anrich Nortje conceded some runs in the death overs, but Chennai’s late charge ultimately fell short.
The Delhi Capitals will be next seen facing the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 3rd, whereas the Chennai camp will be facing Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 5th.
