Rishabh Pant’s emotional century on his Test comeback played a key role in India’s 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the Chennai Test.
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant reflected on his emotional celebration after scoring a sensational century in India’s 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the Chennai Test. The ton marked Pant’s return to Test cricket after a severe car accident in December 2022, making the achievement even more special.
Pant’s knock of 109, combined with Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 119, helped India recover from a shaky position of 81/3. Their 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket propelled India to declare at 287/4, setting Bangladesh a daunting target of 515 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja then took charge with the ball, sharing nine wickets between them as Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 on the final morning.
“I Belong The Most To Test Cricket,” Says Pant
Pant’s celebration after reaching his sixth Test century was an impactful moment. He stood still in the middle of the pitch, eyes closed, bat raised, seemingly offering a silent prayer.

Reflecting on the celebration, Pant said, “This 100 was special because I love playing in Chennai. After my injury, I wanted to play in all three formats, and this was my first (Test) match after coming back. It was emotional, I wanted to score in every match, which didn’t happen earlier, but coming back to Test cricket, which is where I belong the most, made it special.”

Speaking to Sports18, Pant expressed the personal significance of the innings, which helped India seize control of the match. He highlighted the importance of his partnership with Gill, explaining how they helped India recover after a difficult start.
“I just enjoyed batting and got a little bit emotional. But at the end of the day, being in the field gives me more pleasure than anything else. I try to read the situation in my own way. When you are 30-3, you need to stitch a partnership. That’s what Gill and I did,” Pant said.
