Pant Addresses Leaving DC

rishabh pant ipl retention

Rishabh Pant addressed Sunil Gavaskar’s comments about his IPL auction situation, clarifying his stance ahead of the mega auction.

Team India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has reacted to comments made by former cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar regarding his situation in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction. Pant took to social media to share his thoughts, addressing Gavaskar’s speculations on the Star Sports show.

Pant, 27, has entered the auction pool after being released by the Delhi Capitals, a franchise he has represented since 2016. During his tenure with the Delhi-based team, Pant scored 3,284 runs and captained the side in the 2022 and 2024 seasons.

With the IPL auction scheduled for November 24 and 25, Gavaskar discussed the possibility of Pant reuniting with the Delhi Capitals. The former cricketer emphasized the unpredictable dynamics of the auction.

“See, the auction dynamics are completely different. So we don’t know how things could go. But what I feel is Delhi (Capitals) would certainly want Rishabh Pant back in their squad. Sometimes, you know, when the player is to be retained, there is a talk between the franchise and the player about the fees that are expected,” Gavaskar said on the show.

He further speculated that the Capitals might seek Pant as a captain for the upcoming season. “If Rishabh Pant is not in their squad, then they’ll have to buy a new captain. So my feeling is that Delhi will definitely go for Rishabh Pant,” he added.

Responding to Gavaskar’s comments, Pant took to his official account on X (formerly Twitter) and replied under Star Sports’ post. “My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say,” he wrote, subtly addressing speculation about his release.

Pant in the Spotlight

The upcoming IPL 2025 auction features Pant in Set 1 of the Marquee Players, alongside prominent names like Shreyas Iyer, Jos Buttler, Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, and Mitchell Starc. With a base price of INR 2 crores, Pant is expected to be a hot pick among franchises.
