Rishabh pant

Rishabh Pant nearly ran out Yashasvi Jaiswal with a risky call on Day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh, but the pair managed to steady India’s innings after early wickets.

On Day 1 of the opening Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Rishabh Pant nearly ran out Yashasvi Jaiswal with a risky call. The incident occurred in the 13th over of India’s first innings, shortly after the team lost three quick wickets in the morning session.

Bangladesh’s Nahid Rana bowled a full-length delivery that Pant played behind the stumps before setting off for a quick single. It was a dangerous decision as the fielder at second slip collected the ball and made a throw towards the stumps. Jaiswal, rushing to complete the run, dived full length just in time to complete a single, after which Pant asked, “Bach gaya tha na? (Safe, yes?)”

In another close call, Pant misjudged the ball while attempting a triple, prompting Jaiswal to dive to make it to the crease safely. After the incident, Jaiswal, seemingly shaken by the near-miss, said, “Slip ho gaya yaar (I slipped).” Watch the video below:

Despite the confusion between the wickets, Pant and Jaiswal managed to settle down against Bangladesh’s bowling attack. Commenting on the moment, former cricketer Dinesh Karthik said, “Both Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t know what to do. They were shocked.”

India Standing Strong After Day 1 of Bangladesh Series Opener

Despite the early jitters, Pant and Jaiswal managed to stabilize India’s innings following the team’s poor start. Bangladesh had opted to bowl first after winning the toss, and pacer Hasan Mahmud was instrumental in removing Indian captain Rohit Sharma for 6, Shubman Gill for a duck, and Virat Kohli for 6.

Pant, after contributing 39 runs, eventually fell to Mahmud, while Jaiswal continued to anchor the innings. At lunch, India was 88 for 3, with Jaiswal unbeaten on 37. However, later, with Jadeja’s 86 and Ashwin’s unbelievable 102, India is standing strong at a total of 339 for 6 wickets.

Notably, Bangladesh, coming off a 2-0 series win against Pakistan, have yet to defeat India in Test cricket, losing 11 out of 13 matches. Meanwhile, India is looking to build on their recent 4-1 Test series win over England earlier this year.
