Riyan Parag received his maiden India T20I cap in a heartwarming ceremony before the start of the match against Zimbabwe.
Indian Cricket Team witnessed a heartwarming moment on July 6th as Riyan Parag, all set to make his T20I debut against Zimbabwe, received his maiden India cap from his father, Parag Das. The senior Das, a veteran of 43 first-class and 32 List A matches himself, was invited onto the field by the Indian team management before the toss to present his son with this prestigious honour.
A video of this emotional exchange was shared by Sony Sports Network on X and has quickly gone viral. The BCCI also joined in the celebration, sharing a picture of Riyan posing with his parents after becoming an official Indian cricketer. Watch the video below:
Parag’s selection for the national team stands on his impressive performance in IPL 2024, where he amassed a staggering 573 runs in 14 innings for the Rajasthan Royals. This tally placed him as the third-highest scorer in the entire tournament.
Parag is not the only debutant in today’s match. Joining him are Abhishek Sharma and Dhruv Jurel, both receiving their first T20I caps for India. While Jurel has already had a taste of international cricket, playing three Tests against England earlier this year, Sharma is a complete newcomer to the national team.

The 23-year-old Sharma, hailing from Amritsar, secured his spot with a phenomenal batting performance in IPL 2024 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The former U-19 World Cup winner scored a remarkable 484 runs with a blistering strike rate of 204.21. Today, he will be opening the batting alongside his childhood friend and India captain, Shubman Gill. Sharma even got a chance to showcase his bowling skills in his maiden T20I, bowling two overs and conceding 17 runs.
