Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag sarcastically downplayed his exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad.
Riyan Parag, a vital batter for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, downplayed any disappointment regarding his omission from India’s T20 World Cup squad. Despite emerging as a consistent performer for his team this season, Parag’s name was not included in the final selection.
Speaking to reporters after a recent match, Parag responded to a question about the World Cup snub with a touch of sarcasm. “Not really. Until last year, I was not even in contention to play in the IPL, right?” he said in an interview, as quoted by NDTV.
Parag also revealed that he no longer uses social media. However, he acknowledged hearing rumours about his potential selection. “So I have heard a few rumours. I am not on social media anymore. I heard a few noises here and there, but I am just glad they are taking my name for the right reasons now. I was not really thinking about anything. I am really happy for the boys in our team, especially Sanju Bhaiya, to get the call-up. It is going to be great for our country, and hopefully we bring the World Cup home,” he added.

Parag has been a standout performer for the Rajasthan Royals this season, currently ranking fourth in the IPL’s top run-scorers list. He has amassed 409 runs in just 10 matches, averaging an impressive 58.43 with a strike rate of 159.14.
The young batter will be next seen donning the Rajasthan Royals jersey against the Delhi Capitals on May 7th. Though RR has four matches left to play in the tournament, the team has already virtually qualified for the playoffs, bagging 16 points at the top of the table.
