Robin Uthappa dismissed speculation about MS Dhoni’s retirement, confident about his continuation with CSK.
There has been a buzz regarding MS Dhoni as the IPL season winds down. Fans are speculating whether MS Dhoni will be hanging up his bat or not. While some, like former teammate Robin Uthappa, believe Dhoni has more cricket left in him, retirement rumours continue to spread.
Robin Uthappa, who has played for both CSK and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), felt that the retirement speculation around Dhoni was premature. “Coming to CSK, is this MS’s last run? I don’t think so, personally, I don’t think so. But, do they want to spoil RCB’s party? Definitely. Ruturaj, I think, would want to get to the knockout stage in his first season as captain. That will be a huge confidence booster for him and CSK. It’s one for the long run. Let’s see where that goes,” he said on JioCinema.
Despite the buzz around his potential retirement, the numbers highlight Dhoni’s continued impact. At the age of 42, he has scored 136 runs in 13 matches this season at a strike rate of 226.66, with his cameos being pivotal for CSK. Additionally, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, he averages a staggering 125.33 with a strike rate of 184.31 against RCB.

The defending champions have already played their final home game of the season, and their last league match against RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru could potentially be Dhoni’s farewell.
As of May 18th’s match, for both teams, victory is crucial. RCB needs a win to stay alive in the playoff race, while a loss would knock them out. For CSK, even a narrow defeat might be enough to secure their playoff spot thanks to their superior net run rate (NRR). This match promises fireworks as both sides fight for their playoff lives.
