BCCI IMPACT PLAYER Fees Duleep Trophy BCCI Introduces Strict Domestic Rules BCCI Central Contract

Roger Binny has stepped down as BCCI President, and Rajeev Shukla has reportedly taken charge as the acting chief until fresh elections and reforms are implemented.

Roger Binny has stepped down as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, with Rajeev Shukla taking over as acting chief. According to reports from Dainik Jagran, Shukla chaired the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Wednesday. The meeting placed sponsorship matters at the top of the agenda following Dream11’s exit as the board’s main partner.

The council also discussed the process of finding a long-term sponsor to cover the next two-and-a-half years. The upcoming Asia Cup, starting on September 10, adds urgency to the matter. However, officials face challenges in issuing tenders and completing legal requirements within such a short window.

The board is not considering temporary sponsorship for just the Asia Cup. Instead, efforts are directed toward finalising a stable deal that runs until the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November.

BCCI Elections to Proceed Under Old Constitution

Meanwhile, BCCI will hold its Annual General Meeting and elections next month, despite the recent passage of the National Sports Governance Law. The new law is yet to be notified and may take four to five months before it is formally enacted.

For now, the board and its state associations must continue under the existing constitution framed after the Supreme Court’s approval of the Lodha Committee recommendations. The Sports Ministry has also confirmed that both national and state elections will follow the current framework until further notice.

The rules set by the Lodha Committee remain in force, which include a maximum age cap of 70 years for office-bearers. Additionally, officials who have served nine years in total or six consecutive years in office must step down. These provisions apply equally to BCCI and state bodies.
