Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli Missing

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were unexpectedly removed from ICC ODI batter rankings despite being active players.
India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma, who recently became the world’s No. 2 ODI batter, and former India captain Virat Kohli were on Wednesday (August 20) removed from the ICC ODI batter’s rankings. The move came as a surprise because both remain active cricketers for India. Interestingly, in the ICC ODI batter’s list released last week, Kohli was placed fourth with 736 rating points.
According to ICC rules, a player is removed from the rankings only after announcing retirement. However, Rohit and Kohli have featured regularly for India this year. Rohit has played eight ODIs in 2025, including leading the team in all three matches of the bilateral series against England in February. He also captained India to five consecutive wins in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Kohli too has played seven ODIs this year.
In the latest rankings, Shubman Gill continued to lead the ODI batters’ chart, followed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam. West Indies skipper Shai Hope moved up two places to seventh after scoring an unbeaten century in the series decider against Pakistan. He remains the only significant change in the top-10 list of batters.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj climbed to the top of the ODI bowlers’ rankings after an impressive spell of 5 for 33 in 10 overs during the first ODI of the away series against Australia. Maharaj now holds 687 rating points. Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana dropped to second, while India’s Kuldeep Yadav slipped to third. Among the top 10, India’s Ravindra Jadeja is ranked ninth.
In the all-rounders’ list, Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai, who was named ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year 2024, continues to lead with 296 rating points. In T20I rankings, England captain Jos Buttler, Australia’s Tim David and India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal each rose one place to become the 4th, 9th and 10th ranked batters respectively. South Africa’s Dewald Brevis made the biggest leap, jumping nine spots to 12th after a standout performance against Australia. In the second T20I, Brevis smashed 125 runs from 56 balls, breaking multiple batting records.
