Indian captain Rohit Sharma praised Jasprit Bumrah for his match-winning 3/7 in 4 overs against Afghanistan, noting that their experience in the Caribbean helped them adapt and plan effectively.
Team India continued their unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup 2024 with a 47-run win against Afghanistan on Thursday in Barbados. Opting to bat first, India posted a strong total of 181/8, thanks to Suryakumar’s explosive fifty and a crucial cameo from vice-captain Hardik Pandya. In response, Afghanistan struggled throughout their innings and were bowled out for 134 in 20 overs.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma credited their recent experience in the Caribbean for their well-executed plan and adaptation to the conditions. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler, delivering a remarkable performance with figures of 3/7 in 4 overs, demonstrating the team’s confidence in his abilities.
“The last two years, we have come here and played some T20 games. We planned a little well. We adapted well to the conditions that were offered. We knew the class of our bowling lineup would defend this,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
“We know what Bumrah can do for us. It is important for us to use him smartly. He is the one who is ready to take the responsibility as well. Wherever he plays, he is always ready to take the responsibility,” he added.

Notably, India had made a significant change to their playing XI for the match, bringing in Kuldeep Yadav for his first game of the tournament while leaving out Mohammed Siraj. He added that they opted for three spinners in this match and are open to playing three seamers in future games if necessary.
