Navdeep Singh, the 2024 Paralympic gold medalist in javelin, shared in a podcast that he’s a Rohit Sharma fan, admiring his batting, especially during his double hundred.
Navdeep Singh, India’s 23-year-old javelin thrower, made history by winning the gold medal in the F41 classification at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Initially awarded silver, his medal was upgraded to gold after Iran’s Sadegh Beit Sayah was disqualified.
In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube, Navdeep revealed that he is a Rohit Sharma fan. When asked if he preferred Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni, he quickly expressed his admiration for Rohit. He also shared that his appreciation for Rohit began after watching him score a double century.
“He(Rohit Sharma) plays very well. He had scored a double century. What an innings that was! Since then I’ve been his fan,” Navdeep said.
Navdeep Singh’s Comeback at the Paris Paralympics
Navdeep’s journey to success began with his international debut at the Asian Youth Para Games, where he secured his first gold medal. Training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centers in Gandhinagar and Bangalore, he focused on improving his technique and strength. His hard work paid off when he won gold at the Fazza International Championship in Dubai in 2021.
However, setbacks followed, as Navdeep finished fourth at both the Tokyo Paralympics and the Asian Para Games. Despite criticism, he pushed through and earned a bronze at the 2024 World Para Athletics Championship.

“I suffered a lot, so I wanted to achieve something for my country. My event was on the last day, but I came on August 31. So I kept preserving myself,” he said.
“I heard things like, ‘He can’t do this, he only performs well in India, but fails in competition’. Heard these from several quarters, but I just had to ignore all this. I just needed guidance and the right path. I carried all my past baggage, the training, the hard work, the criticisms. Knew I had to unleash all of this on the September 7, and I did that and won,” Navdeep added.
