Reports of a rift between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have emerged, raising concerns about a divided Mumbai Indians team and their future in the IPL.
The Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 campaign has been plagued by reports of a rift between captain Hardik Pandya and former captain Rohit Sharma. These reports suggested a significant disconnect within the team, potentially impacting their performance.
According to Dainik Jagaran, Sharma and Pandya have not been practicing together regularly. A recent incident reportedly involved Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma leaving the nets when Pandya arrived to bat.
A recent conversation between Sharma and Kolkata Knight Riders’ assistant coach Abhishek Nayar also led fans to believe the rift inside the MI team. In the conversation, Sharma reportedly mentioned changes within the Mumbai Indians since Pandya’s captaincy and hinted at this being his final season with the team.
With the upcoming mega-auction, reports suggest that it is unlikely the Mumbai Indians will retain Sharma. Their decision to appoint Pandya as captain suggests they were building their future around the all-rounder. While Sharma might be nearing the end of his IPL career next season, there could still be franchises willing to take a chance on him for the next season.

Meanwhile, MI, under Hardik Panda’s leadership, struggled throughout IPL 2024. After a series of poor performances and unacceptable defeats, the team was officially eliminated from the playoffs. After playing 13 matches, Mumbai has only managed to win four games and sits in the ninth position on the points table. They will play their last match of the tournament against LSG on May 17th.
