India’s captain Rohit Sharma discussed the pitch in Dharamsala, hinting at an extra seamer for the final Test against England.
India is set to play against England in the final match of the five-match test series in Dharamsala on March 7th. Before the game, the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, shared his thoughts on the pitch conditions and how the team can make the most of its players to potentially turn the tables at the World Test Championship rankings.
“I have not played a Test match here in Dharamsala. Both seamers and spinners played back in 2017 Test,” said Rohit during the pre-match press conference.
“Looking at the pitch, it looks like a good pitch. It will be a typical Indian pitch with some movement at start and toward the end,” the opener noted.
The 36-year-old also acknowledged the potential for including an additional seamer in the playing XI, stating, “There is a good chance to play an extra seamer. We have not yet completely decided on it, but there is a good chance. Whether it’s a rank turner or any other pitch, the intent is to win.”
Recognizing the inherent pros and cons associated with different pitch types for both teams, Rohit added, “Even on rank turners, advantages and disadvantages are for both teams. For me, the way we won in the series is more satisfying. It has been a series of comebacks for us.”
The upcoming Test will be only the second ever played at HPCA Cricket Stadium, with the last one witnessing an eight-wicket victory for India against Australia in 2017. Interestingly, only three members of the current Indian squad – Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav – were part of that match. Nevertheless, India is poised to end the series on a high note to secure a 12-pointer on the WTC ranking table.
