Rohit Sharma, Shivam Dube, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Suryakumar Yadav were honored at Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, where Rohit made a joke about Suryakumar’s catch that left everyone laughing.
India captain Rohit Sharma showed his fun side while addressing the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan on Friday, where he and fellow cricketers were honored for their T20 World Cup win. The members greeted Rohit with chants of “Mumbai Cha Raja Rohit Sharma,” creating an atmosphere similar to the Wankhede Stadium. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar for hosting the Mumbai-based players.
Four team members—Rohit Sharma, Shivam Dube, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Suryakumar Yadav—were felicitated at the Vidhan Bhavan. Earlier, Chief Minister Shinde honored them at his residence with a shawl and an idol of Lord Ganesha.
Rohit emphasized that the World Cup victory was a collective team effort, bringing the trophy back to India after 13 years. During his speech, he also lightened the mood with a joke about Suryakumar Yadav’s crucial catch in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa.
“CM Eknath Shinde told me that such an event has never been organized in the Vidhan Bhavan complex. It was a dream come true to bring a cricket World Cup to India after 13 years of wait. It was a team effort. It was a solid team effort,” the skipper said.
“After Surya caught the ball, he told me that the ball sat in his hand. Thank goodness, it sat in his hand. Otherwise, I would have sat him out,” Rohit added, leaving everyone laughing.
