Rohit Sharma praised Rishabh Pant for his remarkable century on his Test comeback, highlighting his impact in India’s 280-run win over Bangladesh.
Rishabh Pant marked his return to Test cricket with a remarkable century in India’s 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai. This was Pant’s sixth Test hundred and his first since returning to competitive cricket after recovering from the injuries he sustained in a car accident in December 2022.
Following the victory, Indian captain Rohit Sharma showered praise on the wicketkeeper-batter. “He’s been through some really tough times. The way he has managed himself through those tough times was superb to watch,” said Rohit, acknowledging Pant’s resilience and determination.
Rohit emphasized how Pant’s return to cricket in the IPL and his success at the World Cup had boosted the team’s confidence. “It was never about what he was going to do with the bat; we always knew what he had with the bat and with the gloves. It was just about giving him game time,” added the Indian skipper.
Rohit Praised Pant’s Commitment To Play Domestic Cricket
Pant’s preparation for the Test series did not go unnoticed, as Rohit also lauded his commitment to playing domestic red-ball cricket to be ready for the long format. “Credit to him as well, he went on to play the Duleep Trophy and got ready for this Test match and had an impact straight away,” added Rohit.
Reflecting on his century, Pant expressed his love for Test cricket and the significance of the innings, saying, “100 was special because I love playing in Chennai. After the injury, I wanted to play in all three formats, and this was my first Test. Hope to get better every day.”
