Rohit Sharma Eyes Match Practice
Rohit Sharma prepared for a possible comeback by considering participation in India A’s unofficial ODI series against Australia A.
India ODI captain Rohit Sharma is likely to make his competitive return in the unofficial ODI series between India A and Australia A, scheduled for September-October. The veteran opener has not played competitive cricket since representing Mumbai in IPL 2025 and could use the matches in Kanpur as preparation for India’s white-ball tour of Australia.
According to Revsportz, Rohit is keen on playing the three ODIs at Green Park, Kanpur, as he does not want to fly to Australia without adequate match practice. The Australia A squad will feature promising names such as Jake Fraser-McGurk, Todd Murphy, Aaron Hardie and Tanveer Sangha.
The 38-year-old, who has retired from Tests and T20Is, last played international cricket during the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. India’s tour of Australia will begin on October 19 with a three-match ODI series. The matches will be held at the Adelaide Oval (October 19), Sydney Cricket Ground (October 23) and Manuka Oval, Canberra (October 25). The tour also includes a five-match T20I series.

Speculation continues over Rohit’s future in international cricket, with several reports suggesting this could be his last series for India. The BCCI is expected to hold talks with the star batter as the team management begins planning for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Rohit will be 40 by then, and the board is reportedly considering starting the transition in the one-day format. A recent report claims Shreyas Iyer could be the frontrunner to succeed him as India’s next ODI captain.
