Rohit Sharma left the batting order open after India’s T20 World Cup warm-up win, praising Rishabh Pant’s knock but indicating flexibility based on conditions and player form.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma remained non-committal about a finalised batting line-up following a 60-run victory over Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup warm-up match.
While openers Sanju Samson and Rohit Sharma himself took the field, youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli were rested for the match. Rishabh Pant, promoted to the number three position, impressed with a quickfire 53 runs off 32 balls.
Despite the win, Sharma acknowledged the team’s ongoing search for the ideal batting order. “We’re quite happy with how things went. We got what we wanted out of the game. It’s important to get used to the conditions—a new venue, new ground, and a drop-in pitch,” he said in the post-match presentation.
Sharma expressed satisfaction with Rishabh Pant’s aggressive batting at number three. However, he clarified that this placement does not guarantee a permanent position for the World Cup. “We just wanted to give him [Rishabh] an opportunity. We haven’t nailed the batting line-up yet, and we wanted most guys to get a hit in the middle,” Sharma explained.

Pacer Arshdeep Singh impressed with his bowling performance, claiming two wickets for just 12 runs in his three overs. Sharma highlighted Singh’s ability to deliver during both the initial stages and the death overs, a valuable skillset in T20 cricket.
“He [Arshdeep] has shown us he has the skills upfront and also at the back-end. We’ve got a good 15 players here, and we just need to analyse the conditions and pick the best players for the match,” concluded the Indian skipper.
