Rohit Sharma Spills the Beans on Taking Down Bangladesh
Rohit Sharma discussed India’s willingness to take risks in their first innings to push for a result on a challenging pitch during the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh.
On Tuesday, October 1, India completed a dominant seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test, securing a 2-0 clean sweep in the series. Despite rain interruptions on the second and third days, Rohit Sharma’s side pushed for a result on a pitch that offered little for the bowlers. The Green Park Stadium in Kanpur was buzzing with excitement as India managed to dismiss Bangladesh for 233 in their first innings before setting up a bold declaration to create a winning opportunity.
Speaking after the match, Rohit Sharma revealed that India was ready to take a risk with their approach in order to move the game forward after losing two and a half days to weather disruptions.
“We had to think a lot about how to keep the game moving after losing so much time. It wasn’t about the runs we scored; it was about the overs we needed to bowl at them. The pitch didn’t offer much for the bowlers, so we had to increase the run rate and give ourselves a chance to get a result,” Rohit said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Rohit also acknowledged the risk they were willing to take, saying, “It was a risk, but we were prepared. Even if we had been bowled out for 100-150, we wanted to stay in the game and try for a result.”
Ashwin and Akash Deep Shine
Ravichandran Ashwin, who was named Player of the Series for his all-round performance, echoed Rohit’s sentiments. Ashwin took 11 wickets in the series, including a century in the first Test, showcasing his contribution to India’s success.
