Rohit Sharma Undergo Assessments In Bengaluru
India’s Test captain and T20 vice-captain, Shubman Gill, has reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for his fitness assessment ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. According to PTI, the 25-year-old will begin training before leaving for Dubai, where the tournament begins on September 9.
The Indian squad is scheduled to assemble in the UAE on September 4, ahead of their opening clash against the hosts. ODI skipper Rohit Sharma and pacer Mohammed Siraj have also checked in at the CoE for their pre-season fitness tests, expected to conclude by Sunday. Rohit, who has stepped away from T20Is and Tests, will be closely monitored as he prepares for the new season.
The 38-year-old is likely to feature in India’s ODI series in Australia this October, although his participation in India A’s one-dayers against Australia A later in the month remains uncertain. Gill missed the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal after being diagnosed with flu. Initially named captain of the North Zone squad, the opener had to withdraw and recuperated at his Chandigarh home. Having recovered, he has now rejoined the national support staff in Bengaluru.

Unlike previous seasons, where the squad assembled in Mumbai, players will this time fly directly to Dubai in phases from their respective bases. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has already reported to the CoE for preparations. PTI understands that Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shardul Thakur will also undergo mandatory fitness assessments in the coming days.
Thakur, currently leading West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semifinals, along with standby players Jaiswal and Sundar, is expected to join the national setup after their domestic commitments. Shubman Gill reported to the BCCI CoE in Bengaluru for fitness test ahead of Asia Cup 2025, as Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Jitesh Sharma also joined the pre-season assessments.
