Rohit Sharma criticized Star Sports for breaching his privacy by airing a conversation he had requested not to be recorded, highlighting the intrusive nature of constant camera surveillance on cricketers.
India captain Rohit Sharma criticized Star Sports for airing a private conversation with ex-teammate Dhawal Kulkarni without consent ahead of an IPL match. Despite Rohit’s request to the cameraman not to record audio, the conversation was broadcast, upsetting him.
Rohit expressed concerns on his social media post about the intrusive nature of media, highlighting how cricketers’ privacy is compromised for content and viewership. He emphasized that constant monitoring of players’ private moments during training and matches breaches their trust.
“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days,” Rohit wrote.

“Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket. Let better sense prevail,” he added.
Mumbai Indians faced controversies even before IPL 2024 began, with Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as captain. The challenges persisted as Hardik dealt with fan hostility and the team’s poor performances throughout their 14 matches, finishing last with just 8 points. Rohit had a strong start, including a century against Chennai Super Kings, but struggled with form later, recording three successive single-digit scores. Despite ending the season with a 38-ball 68, the former captain couldn’t change MI’s fortunes as they lost by 18 runs to Lucknow Super Giants.
