India’s squad for the South Africa tour excludes Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the white-ball segment, appointing Suryakumar Yadav as T20I captain and KL Rahul as skipper for the ODI matches.
The BCCI selection committee finalized the Team India squad for the South Africa tour on Thursday, November 30, marking significant leadership changes and new faces. Suryakumar Yadav retains the T20I captaincy, leading the squad in the upcoming three-match series starting December 10 in Durban. Meanwhile, KL Rahul takes charge as skipper for the three-match ODI series against South Africa.
In the Test arena, Rohit Sharma assumes the captain’s role, with Jasprit Bumrah appointed as his deputy for the two-Test series starting December 26. Rahul will also take up wicketkeeping duties in the Test series. Both Rohit and Virat Kohli requested a break from the white-ball segment.
Notably, newcomers B Sai Sudharshan and Rinku Singh secured maiden call-ups in the ODI squad. Wicket keeper-batter Sanju Samson also returns to the ODI squad after a hiatus.The selection committee convened with head coach Rahul Dravid overseeing proceedings.
The series kicks off with the T20Is on December 10 followed by the ODIs commencing on December 17 in Johannesburg.
