Rohit Sharma attempted Stuart Broad’s famous ‘bail swap’ trick and added a magic dust gesture in search of wickets during the match against Bangladesh.
India wrapped up a convincing 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test at Chennai, but it wasn’t without a bit of on-field fun from captain Rohit Sharma. On Day 4, with Bangladesh showing some resistance, Rohit attempted to bring a quirky approach to breaking the partnership. Inspired by former England pacer Stuart Broad’s famous superstition, Rohit tried a ‘bail-swap trick’ during a break between deliveries.
As Ravindra Jadeja prepared to bowl, Rohit walked up to the stumps, carefully swapped the bails, and then theatrically gestured as if blowing “magic dust” on them. The playful moment saw him pretend to cast a spell on the stumps, hoping it would inspire a breakthrough wicket.

Broad’s Bail-Swap Trick
In the 5th Ashes Test earlier this year, Stuart Broad performed the quirky “bail-swap trick” while bowling against Australia. With Australia at 91/1, Broad flipped the bails before placing them back, hoping for a breakthrough. Immediately after, Marnus Labuschagne was caught, triggering an Australian collapse to 185/7. Broad repeated the trick in the second innings, dismissing Todd Murphy with a peach of a delivery, marking his final Test wicket.
Inspired by Broad’s success, Virat Kohli also tried the “bail-swap trick” during a Test against South Africa. He swapped the bails before Jasprit Bumrah’s over, leading to Tony de Zorzi’s dismissal on the last ball, breaking a crucial 93-run partnership.

However, Rohit’s trick didn’t work immediately this time, as Mehidy Hasan Miraz smashed the next delivery for a boundary. Despite this, Ashwin soon struck with his 37th five-wicket haul, and Bangladesh’s batting order folded in just 26 balls, handing India a comfortable win.
