In a remarkable display of resilience, skipper Rohit Sharma marked his return to form with a gritty century against England on Day 1 of the third Test in Rajkot. Achieving his 11th Test century and his third against England, Rohit reached the milestone after the Tea break, facing 157 deliveries.

Despite early setbacks with the dismissals of key batters, Rohit anchored the innings steadfastly. With Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rajat Patidar falling early, Rohit’s partnership with Ravindra Jadeja proved pivotal.

The skipper had his moments of fortune during his innings. He was dropped by Joe Root in the slips when he was on 27 and survived an LBW decision on 29 after an inside edge. Rohit became the seventh Indian captain to score a Test century against England, marking his first Test hundred since July last year and breaking a dry spell of ten innings.

During his innings, Rohit also achieved a significant milestone by surpassing MS Dhoni in the list of most sixes by an Indian in Tests. He hit his 78th and 79th sixes in the match, overtaking Dhoni’s tally of 77. Currently, Rohit is second only to Virender Sehwag, who leads with 91 sixes.
