In IPL 2024’s 67th match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won against DC by 47 runs, extending Bengaluru’s impressive winning streak to five matches. The victory has significantly intensified the competition in the points table, leaving Delhi Capitals reeling alongside the home team.
Opting to bowl first, Delhi Capitals witnessed an entertaining start with early wickets and abundant runs in the Powerplay. Rajat Patidar’s exceptional innings, supported by Will Jacks’ solid contribution, propelled RCB’s score. However, Delhi Capitals made a spirited comeback, securing crucial wickets and restricting RCB to below the 190-run mark, despite a late flourish from Cameron Green. Khaleel Ahmed and Rasikh Dar stood out with two wickets each for Delhi. After their allotted 20 overs, RCB scored 187 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.
RCB, defending what seemed like a slightly below-par score, aimed for early wickets, and their bowlers delivered. David Warner fell in the first over, followed by three more wickets within four overs. While the job seemed halfway done, Delhi put up some resistance until Lockie Ferguson’s crucial dismissal of Shai Hope exposed their tail-enders. Bengaluru maintained pressure, consistently taking wickets, with Yash Dayal securing three.
Delhi’s loss will sting, as a win could have strengthened their playoff chances, but instead, they lag behind Bengaluru in net run rate, nearly ruling them out. The top order’s failure, coupled with Jake Fraser-McGurk’s costly run-out, weighed heavily. Shai Hope and Axar Patel’s efforts were commendable, but more was needed. Despite Axar’s fifty, DC fell short and was all out for 140 in the 19th over of their chase.
