Jos Buttler’s sensational performance in RR vs RCB on April 6th was hailed by coach Kumar Sangakkara.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Kumar Sangakkara was all praise for Jos Buttler after his spectacular century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their IPL 2024 match on April 6th in Jaipur. Buttler, who had struggled in RR’s previous matches, made a comeback with an unbeaten 100 off just 58 balls, guiding his team to a comfortable six-wicket victory while chasing a target of 184 runs.
“Jos is the best white-ball opener in the world, and all he needed to do was sit back and ignore some of the noise,” Sangakkara said after the match highlighting his confidence in Buttler’s abilities and acknowledging the external criticism the batter had faced.
Buttler himself opened up about the mental challenges he had encountered during his recent slump. “However long you’ve played the game, you still have those anxieties and stresses. Sometimes you just have to tell yourself it’ll be okay. Just keep digging in and working hard; at some point, we will be okay. I actually did feel really good in the last game, even though I only scored 13 or something,” added Buttler in the post-match interview.
Despite his earlier struggles, Buttler revealed a sense of calmness during the previous match against the Mumbai Indians, even though he only managed 13 runs. This positive mindset, coupled with Sangakkara’s unwavering support, likely played a crucial role in his successful comeback.
Buttler’s century, however, was not just a personal triumph. It was a defining moment for RR’s campaign. It was through Buttler’s knock that the Rajasthan Royals continued their dominant run in IPL 2024. Despite an early setback with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal dismissed for a duck, a phenomenal partnership between Buttler and Sanju Samson steered Rajasthan to victory.
The duo stitched together a match-winning 148-run stand, the highest partnership of the season so far. While skipper Sanju Samson played a solid knock of 69 runs, Buttler finished the chase in style, hitting a six to seal the win with five balls to spare.
