Ruturaj Gaikwad joins Yorkshire
Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad signed with Yorkshire for his first County Championship stint, set to begin next month.
Indian cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad is set to begin his maiden stint in the County Championship after signing a deal with English club Yorkshire. The 28-year-old will join the squad ahead of their County Championship fixture against Surrey next month and will remain with the team until the end of the season. During his time in England, Gaikwad will also feature in the One-Day Cup.
Currently in England with the India A squad, Gaikwad has not played in either of the two games so far against the England Lions. He has also been out of competitive action for over two months following an elbow injury he picked up during the Indian Premier League, which forced him to miss the remainder of the tournament.
Despite having represented India in only 29 international matches across ODIs and T20Is, Gaikwad has an impressive domestic record. He has scored seven centuries in first-class cricket and 16 in List A matches. Since last year, he has also taken on the captaincy role for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
Sharing his thoughts after signing with Yorkshire, Gaikwad said, “I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire. I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware,” as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath welcomed Gaikwad’s addition to the squad. “I’m extremely pleased to see Ruturaj sign with us for the second half of the season. He is a very accomplished cricketer with a natural all-round game that is well suited to the cricket we want to play. Ruturaj will give us some extra solidity in our batting lineup whilst having that ability to score quick runs when required. He’s an exciting talent and one I know is highly rated across the game.”
With Yorkshire preparing for a crucial phase in the domestic season, the addition of Gaikwad is expected to strengthen the side in both red and white-ball formats.
